The 2010 Annual Meeting of China Center for Edgar Snow Studies Held at Peking University

On June 22, the 2010 Annual Meeting of China Center for Edgar Snow Studies was held at the East Hall of Lin Hu Xuan, Peking University. Li Yansong, Vice President of Peking University, Jin Yongjian, President of the PFS, Shu Zhang, Vice President of the PFS, He Liliang, Advisory Board Member of the PFS, Liu Liqun, former Secretary-General of Smedley-Strong-Snow Society of China (predecessor of the PFS), Wang Xuezhen, former Secretary of the CPC Committee of Peking University, and over 10 PKU scholars attended the meeting.

Li Yansong, Director of China Center for Edgar Snow Studies and Vice President of Peking University, extended a warm welcome on behalf of the PKU to the guests attending the meeting. He pointed out that the meeting was a good platform to show that contemporary PKU people are following the path pioneered by Mr. Snow to promote mutual understanding between the people of the world and the Chinese people, and continue to make new contributions to the promotion of China-foreign friendship and lasting peace of the world.

Sun Hua, Deputy Director of China Center for Edgar Snow Studies, delivered the 2009-2010 annual work report. In the report, he elaborated on the achievements of the Center in scientific research, academic exchanges, student training, domestic cooperation, and social services in the past year, and discussed the cooperation over the publishing of Snow’s works and letter collections with the participating scholars.

Later, Vice President Li Yansong presented the Letter of Appointment to Ambassador Jin Yongjian, appointing him the Advisory Board Member of the Center. Zhu Qiang, Curator of the Peking University Library, and Yan Jun, Deputy Director of Office of International Relations, Peking University, were Committee Members of the Center.

In his speech, Jin Yongjian, President of the PFS, recalled Snow’s profound friendship with PKU teachers and students as a lecturer, and expressed his appreciation for the Center’s brilliant achievements in promoting academic exchanges and friendship between China and the US.

Later, the present scholars discussed about the Snow studies. Ms. Ye Tiehua, Council Member of the Center, said she would do her best to make greater contributions to the academic research.
